Rough Cut Generator

Rough cut generator
build assemblies from scripts, notes, and transcripts

Generate rough cuts and assemblies automatically from shooting scripts, director notes, and transcripts. EditAssist matches scene descriptions to the best takes, builds string-outs, and prepares timelines for editorial refinement. All local, all private.

01

Workflow

Upload your script, storyboard, or director notes and the agent parses the narrative structure. It searches the rushes for the best take per scene, prioritises director-marked selects, and builds an assembly timeline with placeholder durations and suggested cutaways. You can refine with plain-English commands like 'swap scene 3 for the alternate take'.

The rough cut includes synced audio, basic colour matching, and scene markers. It conforms to your house naming convention and bin structure. From here you edit normally, with the agent assisting selects, pacing analysis, and conform. The whole pipeline runs on your own machine.

02

Prompts

  • Build a rough cut from the shot list the director sent over in the PDF.

  • Build an assembly from the shooting script: match each scene description to the best take.

  • Build a timeline from the storyboard: one shot per panel, with placeholder durations.

  • Generate a rough cut from the script I just uploaded.

  • Build a narrative structure from the interviews: group by theme, not chronology.

  • Build a paper edit of the 3-hour assembly: keep only the strongest narrative beats.

  • Cross-reference the shooting schedule with what we actually shot and flag missing coverage.

  • Tell me which scenes haven't been covered yet based on the script and what we've shot.

Features

Script-to-timeline

Parses scripts, storyboards, and director notes to build assemblies with the best take per scene automatically selected.

Director-select priority

Prioritises takes marked by the director, flagged in metadata, or rated in the camera reports.

Auto-sync & match

Syncs external audio, matches basic colour, and adds scene markers so the assembly is ready for editorial.

Plain-English refinement

Refine the rough cut with conversational commands. The agent understands swaps, trims, reorders, and coverage requests.

04

Local-first

All transcription, vision analysis, semantic search, and clustering run on your own GPU. Nothing about your footage is uploaded. The only data that leaves is the text of your conversation with the agent. It's free to download, local models are free, and a new account starts with £15 of credit and no card. For long-running cloud work, pay as you go, or choose £20/mo Starter or £100/mo Pro.
